Friday Night Free Bet: Phoenix Suns @ New Orleans Pelicans (+1.5 | O/U: 228)
It’s Friday Night in the NBA, as the Pelicans host the Suns in a battle for first place in the Western Conference. The Pels were a constant thorn in the Suns’ side in the first round of last year’s playoffs, and we suspect much of the same tonight.
Phoenix has endured a rough stretch of late, having been blown out in consecutive games vs the Mavs, and Celtics. This would often be viewed as a ‘get-right’ spot for the Suns, but we don’t see it. Phoenix has built its record through a favorable schedule, and their most recent stretch of losses is especially concerning. Further, Chris Paul didn’t look right in his return vs Boston, and the Suns still lack depth at the wing.
As to New Orleans, the knock on the Pelicans here would be the team’s current injury report. The absence of Forwards Brandon Ingram and Herb Jones is not ideal, but the team has shown its formidability in their absence. In fact, over the past five games (all of which Ingram has missed) the Pelicans boast a perfect record, and rate first in Net Efficiency by a wide margin.
Too, we love that the Pelicans have the advantage of playing at home tonight. The Suns have struggled on the road (4-6 SU), whereas New Orleans has won eight of their past nine at home, the lone loss being a reasonable one.
Even banged up, this is a great time to back New Orleans. The team continues to streak despite the absence of Ingram, and Phoenix has recently exhibited their worst basketball of the season. The Suns got the better of New Orleans early this season, but the two teams’ playoff history suggests the Pelicans, and their fans, will be ready for tonight’s game.
Bet: Pelicans +1.5 (-110)
